While social distancing and quarantine, the emotional state of mind has sure taken a good dip. And admittedly, it is quite difficult not to think of all the things we are falling behind and missing out on. Despite all of this, there are definitely some things to be happy about:
1. Time for yourself
If not for the pandemic, we’d be working right now and not have had the time to stay relaxed in the comfort of our home in the company of our thoughts. Don’t waste this precious time. Invest some time in your own well-being; create a new, mindful morning routine, have a self-care session every week, listen to at least one TED Talk every day to expand your knowledge and gain a new perspective, etc. Catch up on hobbies and other activities you never had time for.
2. Less Pollution
In the recent years, pollution has become one of the greatest problems globally. But since we’re all staying indoors, use of vehicles and public transport is a lot less, thus, greatly reducing the amount of pollutants emitted. Less people travelling or going outdoors will also mean less litter. And let’s be real— if not for the pandemic, we wouldn’t stay indoors just to reduce pollution; of course, because we have to work, visit relatives, get groceries, etc. So, now, we’re going green!
3. Time to spend with your loved ones (virtually or actually)
In my experience, my parents and I have never really gotten to spend much time together at home. My parents’ profession, my long working hours at school and tuitions made it difficult for us to be together home for much time. Late evenings and Sundays were when we got to spend the most time in each others’ company.
So this is really something to be glad about. And you can always connect virtually if you’re not living under the same roof, though it’s not the same as actual interaction. But if you are, watch movies together, play games, talk about old memories, look through old photos— there’s so many fun things to do!
4. You save more money
Admit it, you have been saving a lot since the pandemic. You’re rarely going out, using less fuel. You’re only buying necessary stuff, like groceries. You’re probably making more food at home than ordering from outside. See? You’re saving! And that’s great! For many of us who find saving difficult, this is a great chance to start.
There, I gave you four reasons to be happy about, but of course those are not the only ones. Let me know what else makes you smile and if I made you smile, too.
Thanks for reading!
